Some people are unable to care for their parents at home.
Sometimes their children are old themselves. If they need special care and medical attention then they need to be there.
I really appreciate that we have such clean facilities and plenty of food for them to eat, they get three hot cooked meals a day and usually a child or sister or friend visits them every day. They have TV and they watch it with other people their age. they have exercise classes designed for seniors and partys and special visitors. I worked there and we tried to make it homey and pleasant and treat them like we would our own mother.
I was shocked to see some of the other countries and the abuse of the elderly in these places it made me glad I was a US citizen. Some countries have no social security and their old people have to beg on the streets to survive. when they get to old to do that they simply die of starvation.
Unless a child can take them in which especially in middle eastern countries where they have multiple wives and children they don't even feed the elderly are simply left to die.
As bad as they may feel having to go in there sometimes it is unavoidable. but at least they are not thrown out in the street to starve.

In most cases it's not by choice, They get better care in a nursing home, Many familys both husband and wife work so no one would be at home to care for the parent. Older folks also like to be with other people their own age

That is generalizing Americans. There are plenty of familys where their grandparents live with them. Mine lived with me for a while before they died. Sometimes a nursing home can give better care than lets say a family with two working adults can provide.

It's the pressures of living these days. People have to work...or they live far away or they don't want the responsibility.
It's a shame because if they could only see how their old folks are sometimes treated in some of those homes.

I would assume because they don't have their priorities in the right place or they are just not able to provide proper medical attention to their elder loved ones.

please know not all american's do this. some do it becuase the parents have medical challenges the children can't handle & sometimes it's best for the parents actually.
sometimes, sadly, children do it beucase they don't want to stop their own lives and take care of their parents.
