By dog fighting, I'm assuming you mean political maneuvering...
That's what politicians do. Both parties do that, almost to the point of being irrational about it. Partisan politics has so infected this country that people usually chose party lines over common sense.
So, it's not just Democrats that need to learn to stop casting everything in terms of party lines, and start making decisions based on what's actually proper under the law, and what's in the best interest of the country.
