My husband is ill. I have been asked more than once by different nurses why I married him. I find that rude and don't know how to handle it nor what to make of it. We have been together for 13 years, and were married two years ago.

They don't mean to offend you. They are probably just curious as to why you would want to subject yourself to the pain of losing him. They don't see/feel the relationship like you do. They don't see it from your eyes, your heart. Just politely ask them if they would leave their spouse if they became ill.

Perhaps you should take the question to mean "What are the positive qualities in you husband that you admire?" Then answer that question, and if you answer well they may even treat him better. (not that they treat him badly, but if you can put a human face on their patient, they seem to help out more.)

Flip it ask them in the most polite way "how is that any of your business"? then look very serious as you wait for an answer, I highly doubt you will get one. Love that man till your last day, and then some......

Accept that there are a lot of rude inconsiderate people out there and answer, if you must, "I love him" and walk away. Don't let the turkeys get you down.

I think a good answer could be. Are you married? if they answer yes, then you can say well why do you think I am married? if they say no, then you can tell them that's why you are not married because you are mean.

People can be so insensitive. I get the same thing sometimes (my husband is disabled).

I just tell the rude people "Because we love each other". It stops them in their tracks.
