I just asked my doctor this on monday. My baby is 9 months old and the doctor said to wait one more month. Also doctor said to be careful of organic and sugar free yogurts because they might contain honey as a sweetener (which shouldn't be fed to a child under 2). Just read the labels. One that is safe for babies when you do start feeding yogurt is a brand called Yo Baby made by Stonyfield Farm.

My doctors okayed yogurt for my child at four and half months when we found out that she was allergic to rice cereal. She tolerated it well and she still loves it at 7 1/2 months. The book what to expect the first years which is written by doctors says that yogurt is a great food for young infants and can even be a first food for them.

Just make sure that the yogurt that you give your baby has no added dyes sugars. Go with one that is all natural and full fat. Stoneyfields makes a yogurt called yobaby. They have several kinds and some even have cereal mixed in them.

An infant can have yogurt at 9 months, whole yogurt is the best. The milk is processed differently so that's why they can have it before they are 12 months old.

My daughter is almost 8 months and I started giving her some about a week ago. My doc said about 2 months after they have been on solid food. Just start out with a tablespoon or so at breakfast, after their regular breakfast.
They make a special kind (they carry it at Safeway with the regular yogart) of yogart just for babies. My doc recommended it for her, but you could give her any whole milk yogart. Just make sure you dont give them lowfat or fat free. They need the fat, and shouldnt have any artificial sweeteners.
