Dear Mr. Swanson:
Thank you for contacting me regarding President Bush’s decision to commute Scooter Libby’s prison sentence – a decision I disagree with.
Â
Although the U.S. Constitution gives the president this power, I believe the vice president’s former chief of staff should have been held accountable for perjury, obstruction of justice and false statements in connection with the federal investigation into the leak of a CIA agent's identity.
Â
The incident was an affront to the men and women who sometimes must put their lives on the line in our country’s intelligence service.
Â
Again, I appreciate your interest in the issue. And, please don’t hesitate to contact me in the future on this or any other matter.
