Suzanne Enoch has a series that I love:
Flirting With Danger-The Palm Beach Job should have been a slam dunk for the extraordinaire Samantha Jellico. But when an explosion throws her into the arms of her target, playboy billionaire Rick Addison, she has to review her rules to flirting.
The next two I won't tell you about because then you will know the outcome of the first one.
Don't look Down
Billionaires Prefer Blondes
I am waiting for the next one to be released. They have romance, mystery and comedy.
I also love the Sue Grafton series. It starts out with A is for Alibi (I think) and each book starts with the next letter. I think she has gotten all the way to S.
My all time favorite is JD Robb's death series. There are two really strong main characters Eve and Roarke that I love.

Mysteries: Anything by--
Rita Mae Brown and Sneaky Pie Brown (some things by just RMB are NOT mysteries! Look for the ones that feature the cat Mrs. Murphy)
Elizabeth Peters (Amelia Peabody is a GREAT character)
Joan Hess
M. C. Beaton (either Hamish MacBeth or Agatha Raisin are great fun)
Tony Hillerman (kind of heavy with local color from the reservations of the US Southwest, but very good)
Perri O'Shaugnessy
Dorothy L. Sayers (classics from the 1930's)
Elliot Roosevelt (the detective is First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt!)
Mary (or Carol) Higgins Clark (more romantic/suspense than most of the others)
Emma Lathen (set on Wall Street, which seems like an unlikely place for a mystery, but it works)
The Lillian Jackson Braun "Cat Who" books -- easy reading
Diane Mott Davidson (detective is a caterer, and there are recipes throughout)
Donald Westlake's Dortmunder books are a riot. Only some are mysteries, but all are very funny.
Those will keep you busy for a while!

The Gaslight Mysteries by Victoria Thompson. First one is Murder on Astor Place. They have good mystery plots and growing chemistry between the main characters, Sarah Brandt( a young widowed midwife from a prominent family who all but abandoned her family's wealth and has a passion for justice because of a past injustice) and Detective Sergent Frank Malloy(a widower who wasn't prepared to bother with a woman who won't let him close a case unsolved and the troubles of paying the large price to be promoted to Captain). These take place at the turn of the century in New York during the time when the police department was being reformed by Police Commisioner Teddy Roosevelt.
If you want a really good suspense novel, try Superior Position by Evan McNamara. I couldn't put it down. There' s a sequel, Fair Game, and it's just as good as the first.

James Patterson's Alex Cross novels are good, JD Robb's In Death books, Jeffery Deaver's Lincoln Rhyme books (The movie the Bone Collector was made from one of the books). Also, Patricia Cornwell (read those in order though), Tess Gerritson has some good ones.
Also, try asking the librarians at your library for ideas. My library puts out a little booklet that has suggestions. (If you like author X, try these authors...that type of thing.)

Pick up Kay Hooper's Fear books. Excellent on both the suspense AND the romance tip.
Also, Iris Johansen's series about Eve Duncan.
Tami Hoag and Erica Spindler are also solid romantic suspense prospects.

Not knowing your style, whether you like a touch of humour or some fastasy, I`ll list a few of my favourites and a short comment on them.Virginia Lanier: All her books have Bloodhounds in their titles eg: Ten Little Bloodhounds. Her character is Jo Beth, she breeds and trains bloodhounds for search and rescue, tracking down exscaped criminals and robbers. She lives on high wired compand to avide her exhusband and his solid silver baseball bat! Each of her stories is on going but you can easily read them out of sequence as they centre around a different mystery each time. You`ll love her dogs and her humour is very dry!
Dana Stabenow: Her books are set in Alaska and she has two series with two different main characters:Liam Campbell.A worn down detective with a lot of personal baggage!
Kate Shugak. A gutsy woman who gives110% and never says die!
Christina Skye: She wrote a series named : Code Name: Baby, C N: Nanny, C N: Princess, They are quite funny and set with the F.B.I. and such. I also enjoyed reading a lot of Dick Francis (they could make good movies from his books) they are set around horses but each book has different story lines and characters and they aren`t always to do with horse racing like I first thought. They are very suspencefull indeed!
