Im selling my laptop and want to get rid of all the deleted data on the disk which I believe can be restored. How do I do it, with what? and can I do it for free?

You can reformat the hard drive. However, the only real way to keep someone from getting to your data is to physically destroy the hard drive.

You can download free programs , which will delete files from your hard disk and rewrite them with junk data.

Hard drives are relatively inexpensive these days. Burn it and install another one.
