How do you feel about speaking to large groups?
Not just reading a speech but actually talking about serious and/or personal topics. Feel free to elaborate.

If I am really sure about my topic, that it is legit and completely believable and worth speaking about, than I have no problem speaking about things I believe in that I know the people I'm talking to won't hate me for (i.e., I wouldn't feel so great talking to the government about propaganda and confederacies). So I feel more powerful if I speak for something plausible and audience-safe.

I always really hated public speaking when I was in school. I don't mind it as much now because I feel that I am actually saying something when I talk to groups.
In school situations you are generally put into a situation of being a sort of fake expert on some subject. You speak just to fulfill the requirement of speaking. I used to get really nervous doing that.
Now I do a good bit of speaking in my job. It really doesn't bother me now (for the most part) because I feel like the message is real. I can still get nervous under certain higher stress situations, but that can be good. It keeps you alert.

It depends on the audience how I feel about public speaking. The big thing is preparation to make sure you are ready, because if you know you know your stuff it is alot less to be nervous about. Also when speaking try to set it up as a story, because it's also easier to remember a story than a big 5 point

depends what kind of personality you have ; shy? outgoing? so-so or half and half? for me personally i have no problem speaking in front of a group the main thing you need is confidence , thats why its so good to build on that to become a stronger person altogether. for me speaking from scratch is easier then reading from an essay or speech. the words just flow easier and thats just how i am.

I love it. I can talk about anything in a public setting. I don't get nervous around people. I say what I need to say they can agree or disagree. If they disagree then we can discuss it further. I think that being afraid to speak in public is a form or intimidation and if people had more confidence in them self they wouldn't be so afraid of it.

No problems. I have spoken to groups as large as 2500. Public speaking is something you can learn to do and it takes practice but it is a skill worth getting.

i like public speaking, but thats because im an attention whore, and i like the idea of a large group of people listening to me but besides that the advice i give to those who are scared are:
1. no ones listening
2. no one cares
3. no one is going to remember
and you should be fine!

I have no problem speaking in public. However, I feel part of the exponential growth of the Internet and online communication is due to the fact that lots of people have lots to say, but they don't like saying it in front of lots of people...thus the anonymity of the Internet is the forum for their discussions.
