I am looking for a transit type van as some of the places i want to visit have high crime rates and a camper van may attract attention from thieves. I am looking for an older van with a very reliable engine that could travel pretty much clear accross the world with a few problems as possible, any sensible ideas welcome.

Are you talking about passing through high crime areas or overnighting as well. Any van with the potential of valuable contents or even a shelter for the night, may be a target in high crime areas.
Try searching on eBay for various types of van. You may even find the one you want. Blind vans are common in the cities and don't attract much attention but the fuel consumption will be horrific on the road.
