because back in the 40's, 50's, and some of the 60's it was "women do this for me" and "women do that for me" it was a way for the man to dominate the women of the time. Today it is just derogatory and i personaly told a guy where to go for calling me "women" to many times. I may be a women but i am NOBODYS women. Hope this helps

BC THAT iS RUDE. we are not cave women. MEN like to be called men it is not offensive men do not really care if they did they would of said something. Usually when a man says HEY WOMEN it usually follows get me this or do this or do that bring me this bring me that so on so fourth hey women never ever was followed with a postive statement unlike HEY MAN that is usually followed with hey man whats up or how ya doing how was the game last night OR HEY MAN look at that did you see that. SEE where i am going with this. HEY MAN is usually postive unlike HEY WOMEN.

I would really not like some one to say hey kid but that usually is not followed with a negative term unless they are stealling but then the person they are stealing from has to say HEY KID bc they do not know the name of the child. Or they say hey kid whats your name then they say the childs name.
They also could say did you see the way that kid played the game wow. It is just a slang word for child. Really kid means a baby goat.
So the most part the hey kid is not a bad term it is just that HEY KID IS not followed usually by a negative statement either.

the people do not know the name of child. plus it is a slang
unlike HEY WOMAN.

I say "hey woman" all the time to my female coworkers and to girlfriends

Its fun... I come off as a womanizer (but only on purpose, I deliberately exaggerate my expression)... its all in a playful way because they know I'm not serious.

We have engaged in conversation before about double standards.

I dont mind the use of "hey woman"... its just an expression, a sentence... to get someones attention. No different than "hey man"

Cos, somehow, Woman is not a polite form of address to a female. U can say "Hey, Girl" or even "Hey Lady" But not Hey, Woman",. Does this make sense?

lol I never heard that before. My boyfreind says it sometimes and I always crack up laughing. Maybe it's because it sounds like something a guy back in the days would say " Hey women get out there and milk them dang cows"???

A kid does not need any major respect...its just a kid. (i like kids so not to say that)

When its used this way for a man it is always casual.

When it is used when speaking to a woman it is disrespectful. it is acceptable to say "hey girl."

Ask the woman you said it to why it offends her.
