the door probably cannot be fixed. and it is probably less expensive for you to replace the door when you move out than to have the land lord pay someone to replace it. The scratches could probably be fixed with a little paint. Your land lord will probably charge you to paint them because it would not be considered normal wear and tear.

I would notify the LL and explain that you will repair or replace the damaged items prior to your moving out. It would not make sense to repair it before moving, or while the maltis is there.

You might find a used door at your local Habitat for Humanity Restore. Go to http://www.habitat.org/ and enter your zip code.

We were able to replace all of our interior hallow-core doors with solid wood six-panel doors from other people's remodels from the habitat store. The doors were around $20 each. Your price may vary, of course, but it will be much less than the Big Box store will charge.

Depending on how large the hole in the door is you can use spackling to fill in and patch the scratches then after it dries go over it with some light sand paper to smooth it over. Then paint it. If this dosn't work than you may need to replace the door. You will need to measure it and call around to Home Depot, Lowes etc. and compare prices. It isn't hard to install the new door you and a friend could do it yourselves. Hope this helps.

This is a hard question to answer without looking at the damage. You may need to replace the door depending on the extent of the damage. I would call a reputable handyman or Door Contractor to get you a price on repairs and or replacement.

Your landlord will not be pleased if you go to the hardware store and get a large can of wood putty to repair what your dog consumed. Prepare to replace these doors. You can minimize your costs if you obtain the replacment parts in advance, prep and paint them, and then STORE them away from your darling Maltese until it is time to move out. THEN replace the damaged doors with the new ones.
