No party will fold, but I feel that a split in the Republican party may be coming.
There are Republicans like me who are fiscally conservative. i.e. nationwide healthcare, dealing with every poor person in America, increasing Social Security... not exactly on the good list. However, I usually lean to the left on scientific issues.
Then, there are the Republicans who are both fiscally conservative AND scientifically conservative, but they rarely if ever try to come to terms with science.
This rift causes too many differences in the Republican candidates and so can't unify the Republican party. Rather than bickering over small details in policy, Republican candidates stand on all sides of major issues; foreign policy, abortion, stem cell research, etc., and it is hard to bring everyone under the flag.

Did the Republicans fold in 1936? 1940? 1964? The Democrats didn't fold in 1972, either.
Of course, unless they can hack into the vote counting the GOP will be on the LOSING end of the landslide this time, but they will survive even the Bush Leagues and be back for another shot at the big show.
You partisans are sure getting repetitive.

It depends. If we get hit by terrorist again before 08, then yes the democrats will fold given their surrender position.
If they don't attack before then. The Democrats will probably take power and the dominos that George Orwell envisioned will start right back on track like the USSR never fell.

That's what Herbert Hoover said in 1928.
Thereafter, the Democrats locked up the presidency for 20 years.
Great question! D'oh!

Why would having the president and both houses make us fold? We are just getting ready to really up the stakes.

Um... And then back to reality.
This question should be pointed toward the GOP. In an opinion poll that asked which republican candidate one would vote for, "None of the above" poles significantly higher than any of the candidates.

Umm, no, we're the majority party, like it or not. Have you seen Cheney's approval rating lately? 13%. Sounds like it's the Republicans going down in flames...

I hope so ...
this 2 party system is antiquated and no longer lends itself to a candidates position on issues
