The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. When I watch it now I realize it is kind of hokey but It scared me bad when I was a kid.

A really spooky movie that was made for TV is "Salem's Lot" based on a story by Stephen King. Since it is a "TV movie" I'm not sure just how accessible it is ... but SCARY? YES!!
It was released back in the late 70's/early 80's and starred David Soul (Starsky & Hutch), Bonnie Bedelia (Die Hard), Lance Kerwin, and James Mason.
If you are able to get a copy, in addition to the popcorn, soda, and bon bons, make sure you've got your crucifix, Holy water, garlic strands and wooden stake all handy !!

I think the first Halloween was spooky. That and The Shining.. best if you watch them on a really dark night, though ; )
I know of a few that sucked big time, just can't think of the names off the top of my head.

The Shining was pretty creepy.
And The Descent sucked only because of the ending.

The Exorcist still gives me nightmares. I don't know if it counts as a "horror" movie but The Blair Witch Project was a huge disappointment.

I'm with you on the Scream part xD. I always loved the Saw Trilogy. It was filled with suspense and the plot was actually intellectual on some levels, compared to a random spree killer.

Im not really scared by scary movies but i guess.... "I Know What You Did Last Summer" & "Nightmare on Elm St." was scary. The stuff that comes on SciFi channel is not scary

"The Shining" is one of my all time favorites. The original "Halloween" (they have a remake coming out this summer) was great too... but I hated "When a Stranger Calls" and "Cabin Fever".
