I can only agree with you. This has become a big problem. Just recently we had a major pile up near here. It was caused by a truck driver talking on a cell phone! Now people are sending and reading text messages while they drive. I've been told that this is technically illegal in this state, but the police seem to ignore it.
Maybe the only thing that can be done about it is to hold the cell phone companies partially responsible for damages. That way they'll pressure local and state governments to actually do something about it.
In the meantime I can only suggest a "hang up and drive" bumpersticker. I think they have them at cartalk.com

I use it to talk to work when there is sensitive information that I don't want going out over the radio, or if I see a disabled motor vehicle, or an accident and the people need help. I wouldn't say I'm a moron, its part of my job -in law enforcement. Sometimes my radio doesn't come in at all locations. Other times, I'm working, in plain clothes, and don't want people around me to see my on a portable.
I get ticked off at the people who get pulled over and call their friends, to tell them about it. Or people who call the station to complain about other people on their cell phone.

Hey! I don't even OWN a cellphone! I don't even know how to work one, lol. I know, Im totally in the dark ages, but I really don't care what people think about me anyway.
It's really scary to watch people run stopsigns, or skid to a sudden stop IF they happen to catch it in the first place, just because they are yakking away on their cellphones.
If I ever get hit by one of these total morons, I am going to f**k him or her up so bad, they will need an exploratory team to go in and dig that cellphone out of his nether-regions, I promise.

Hard to talk on a cell and operate a motorcycle. So, to answer your question: NO. And when I'm driving on a military installation, it is illegal to talk on a cell phone, so, I don't do it then, either. I let my cell take a message. It gets paid enough to do that.
I saw a ditz driving, waving one hand, talking and writing as she sped down I-264 (almost 70 mph). How was she steering? With her boobs?

It's the EXACT same reason that these idiots speed, tailgate, and cut across four lanes of traffic for NO good reason...
Because it gets them to wherever they are going 30 seconds faster!!!
Obviously, your life has NO value to them - you're just somebody who is in THEIR way!
And most of the time, these dingbats are in such a rush to go NOWHERE - they aren't actually doing anything, but god forbid that somebody ELSE is faster than they are!
People like this are usually compensating for something - and in the case of guys (most - but not all - of these people ARE guys), I think it's pretty obvious what that "thing" is ;););)
