If that's where your heart lies. Go for it. You may not be the next Gelsey Kirkland. But you may be one of the finest teachers ever! There is an old saying, "those who can't do, teach".
If you're focus on your dream, you could become a fine dancer in a few years and you may even get roles with a dance company.
Keep in mind that great teachers have a gift that some dancers never master.

it's never too late!!! im turning 17 in september and i'm also thinking of becoming a professional dancer!.fortunately i have a dance mentor who's a professional dancer so she gives me the best advice! don't listen to these people saying it's too late..cause one day you'll sit and wonder with regret why you listened to people who have never seen you dance before and don't know what ability you have as a dancer. my first dance class was at the age of 13 and before that i was just copying what i saw on music videos and everyone saw the potential in me so i'm more of a natural dancer cause i simply copy what i see which isn't very difficult for me...after watching so you think you can dance AND taking classes with the choreographers from the show has inspired me to move further with my dance and luckily i live in NYC so i have so much oppurtunity here and im gonna start taking a lot more dance classes. well...enough about me
i recommend wherever you are, try and find your best dance schools...then be very versatile cause for example being a tap dancer can help you a lot with salsa..anyhow you're bound to have difficulty/confusion following the moves in some dance classes..i recommen that you watch some videos on youtube..like i always do..also buy some dance instruction DVDs so you can practice at home anytime...
i also recommend working with your flexibility..stretch everyday so that you can get more flexible each time...
in dance class remember first comes technique, then flow them emotion/expression....
don't push yourself to hard and remember to relax that's all i can say and hope i helped! =P

it's NEVER too late to start dancing. And don't be scared about the French part. If you have to speak it speak it, if you can ask if you can speak english. Don't be worried about being the worst! Everybody learns at there own pace. If you are very far behind in learning, ask for a bit of extra help, i'm sure the teacher won't say no!

Sadly, I think so. Being a professional dancers takes years and years of practice. Most dancers are well into their careers at your age and by their mid twenties their careers begin to fade. You should continue to take classes and enjoy what you're doing. But, it isn't a good career move.

not trying to be rude, just trying to answer a question. it might be entirely too late, but it all depends on you.
ok. The Royal Ballet school in London used to not even take girls to train them if they were over 14. it takes 11 years of intense training to be a proffessional dancer. if its really what you want to do, practice EVERY day, no exceptions. if i were you i would take intense classes and go for it, if its really waht you want, otherwise its not worth it. but you have to be serious! it takes a LONG time for your body to get used to all the movements of ballet and even jazz. but good luck! make sure you have fun!! :)
