Well, to get a horse you need a place to keep it, and hay, halter lead line. If your going to ride and you are not using your trainers stuff you would need a saddle and bridle unless you went bareback... If you are wanting to Train your own horse you will need alot of stuff , if you lunge it you would need a lunge line and a lunging whip .. it all depends on where the horses is staying: in a pasture, stall, or padlock.
I Like Arabians they are High sprited and really nice in the show ring.. Quarter horses are much calmer and are better for rodeos... it depends to on what your wanting to do with your horse if its barrel racing, roping, racin, showing , endurence or many more things!

Wow,thats a good big question!! You need a place to keep the horse or money enough for room and board at a stable. You will need brushes etc and halters and tack and money for hay and grain plus veternary expenses. What type of horses do you like and how experienced are you? Ask your trainer to go with you when you look at horses to buy.Keep looking until you find the right horse. Good luck to you!!

Prior to getting your horse:
shelter
food
grooming equip
tack

I'm partial to Tennessee Walkers, after searching different breeds. They have sweet dispositions, versatile (ride in all disciplines), but most importantly have a smooth gait. We now say, "friends don't let friends trot".
