If the toilet had stuff in it, fish it out with some sort of tool so that you don't have to touch it. If it was clean, then toilet water is just as clean as tap water so sit it by the radiator and leave it there to slowly dry (you could try a hairdryer, but the heat from it would probably not do it a lot of good). However if it was switched on when you dropped it, it's probably already broke (my mate's dropped about 3 in the bath before and they all broke).

I'd be flushed with embarrassment!

Actually, I dropped an old mobile down a drain. I retrieved it, took it apart and thoroughly rinsed it with filtered water, dried it off with kitchen tissue and an 'air duster' from Maplins and set the pieces to dry in the airing cupboard for about 24 hours.

The filtered water is important as ordinary water can contain particles that cause short circuits between the tiny connections in a mobile phone.

My cell phone has fallen in the toilet before. Take the battery off and allow it to sit and dry out. It took mine 48 hrs to completely dry. But after it dried it worked just fine.

its not the water that causes the problem its the minerals within the water that you need to get rid of to prevent the circuit shorting.

i would suggest soaking it in either distilled water if you can get your hands on it, or rubbing alcohol would be better for half an hour, then drying it in the airing cupboard,

make sure you dont turn it on untill you have done this, cause if there is a short somewhere, you'll fry the phone when you turn it on

Does a pager count? I dropped my pager in the toilet once, grabbed it (it happened after-flush), and dried it off best I could and left it wrapped in paper towels. It not only worked in a couple days, it vibrated better than ever! Serious!

this happened to my nextel you have to let it air dry
so that all the water gets out of it but you need to take the battery out (that was the case with nextel) and then in 24 hours put the battery back in and try to cut it on.
