lets say your ship crossed the longitude of 180 degrees west. What happens when you cross this line?

a. You instantly jump ahead one day
b. You instantly jump behind one day
c. You instantly jump ahead 12 hours
d. You instantly jump behind 12 hours
e. Nothing happens

One piece of information is missing: which way are you crossing? Eastbound or Westbound?

If Eastbound, then the answer would be B.
Westbound, it would be A.

Of course nothing actually "HAPPENS" though. Time and calendars are human constructs - so unless your prof likes trick questions, you'd answer as above.

Even more technically - the International Date line doesn't exactly follow the 180 degree meridian. It is drawn around landmasses so that there's nowhere on land where you can stand there and wave to someone who's living in tomorrow. ;)
