My 75 y/o African-American step dad is afraid to visit me since we moved to Arkansas. He's afraid he'll get lynched for being married to a white woman. I doubt *that* would happen, but who the heck knows any more?

Interracial relationships are rarely easy anywhere in the U.S. Even in the suburbs of our nation's capital my mom and "chocolate pop" were refused seating in a family restaurant. When I was still in high school I would race home as fast as I could so that my little sister wouldn't find the KKK literature that was sometimes left at our front doorstep. And this was less than a 20 minute drive from D.C.!

I was called "wigger" more than a few times in school just because the man who would one day mean more to me than my biological father was black. Mom and "Chocolate Pop" have been married for 20 years now and I'm proud to be considered HIS daughter as well as hers.

I'm dating a Kenyan man. We definitely get the stares or the sideways glances. We play pool a lot, and it seems like whenever we go out we get a lot of questions about whether we're together or not. It's not exactly harassment, but I've never had so many people be so curious when I'm dating a white guy, they seem to just assume without asking.

Unfortunately, there are still close-minded people in the world that don't comprehend that true love sees no color. In the medicine wheel there are 4 colors : red, white, yellow and black. These colors represent the 4 directions AND the 4 people of the world. All the colors are inside the circle and are unified by the Creator.

It is sad to see so much hate and distrust among the people that live among us. If you are in such a marriage and are truely happy, continue to be strong and enjoy the love that you have found. I wish you many blessings.

Thank you! Preach the word! It's not the 50's here! I'm freaking tired of people looking down on blacks and having problems when they see a interracial couple walking down the street holding hands. They need to mind THEIR business. They don't even know those people so why do they even care?

It's rediculous. I'm white and I dated a black man for almost 6 years. Being from detroit, we were attacked in public from both sides. It's really REALLY trivial and childish to judge the love of other people. Infact, people who look at a couple and only see color are the people that really need help.

Time may heal wounds, but time doesn't make people smarter, or more tolerant. It's a real shame, too: people are too concerned with the racial barriers will miss out on true love someday and be stuck in some crappy relationship because they're too narrow-minded.

Yes, but some people are still extremely isolated from diversity... just look at North Dakota.
