The other day I was at my friend's house.
We were just talking and stuff and we started talking about my singing.
I have been taking private voice lessons for 2 years and I am a good singer. People tell me I am.
When we were talking she said "maybe you should give the whole singing thing up".
Its like she thinks I'm a bad singer or something.
That really hurts my feelings.
She is supposed to be my best friend and support me.
My singing is my one true passion.
Should I be upset by this or am I over reacting?

If you know you are a good singer and others enjoy it -- then don't let anyone take that away from you. Maybe your friend is jealous for some reason. But I would tell her how she made me feel and ask her to elaborate on why she said that.

She is entitled to her opinion, but you are right -- friends should tell the truth (whether it hurts or not), but they should also support you in whatever you decide to do. Your singing is not bringing harm to anyone.

Keep enjoying yourself.

You have every reason to be upset that your feelings were hurt. It could be that she simply doesn't like your singing. Don't let a difference of opinion end a friendship. She could have been a little more polite about it, but being a friend also means being brutally honest at times. If you like your singing, keep on singing and don't let the opinion of one person stop you. Sing..
Sing a song..
Make it simple, to last your whole life long.
Don't worry if it's not good enough, for anyone else to hear.
Just Sing...
Sing a song!

You are not over reacting, and you can't be mad at your friend either. Your friend is your friend and she or he hears your voice all the time, and your tones or octums that your voice hits may not be good for your friend. You have a choice now, you can turn this around by asking your friend to show you what they mean by it, or prove it so to speak. Or keep at it because you friend might be hatefull that you sound so good and he or she don't. Some people will try to get some one else to stop doing what theydo just because they are hating on you. If you know you sound good, and everybody else says you sound good, then keep doing what you do, and just don't listen to that friend when it comes to you singing.

It sounds more like she may be jealous of your singing. Either of you talent, or the time it takes away from her. I'm sorry she's being that way. You can try to help her see that your talent doesn't = lack of talent on her part, or that there is room for both singing and her in your life. If she is still unsuportive of you, maybe she isn't your best friend after all. :(

Sounds like there may be some jealousy here. Just tell her you enjoy it and plan to keep on singing. If she doesn't drop it and keeps pushing you, ask her why she thinks you should stop. Tell her it is your passion and as a friend you would like her support.

Thats kinda sad. your friend is supposed to be your supporter. i think if YOU think you're good at it, go give a shot at American Idol or anything.
