How do you get rid of them?? i know of some people who have disposable Japanese Beetle bags that trap the beetles in the bag when they go in, but i can't find them at the store... Is there another option, or could you tell me where to get those bags?

The best solution for getting rid of them is Milky Spore and you can get it at Lowe's. It will give the beetles a virus that spreads to others over the years until you have no beetles. I put it down about 25 years ago and then again 5 years ago and I have only had maybe a half dozen sickly beetles to deal with. It last for 15 to 20 years. Don't use Sevin ... it kills bees and you need the bees.

Early a.m. or almost dark (when beetles are quiet), hold underneath the limb or leaves with the beetles a wide, shallow pan with soapy water in it. Knock the beetles into the soapy water--they can't get out. Process is painstaking but very non-toxic and cheap...

Japanese Beetles are a very beneficial insect in that they eat aphids which cause far more damage. But they are a nuisance.
As they are so beneficial, I recommend you use the traps rather than spraying for them. Spraying will kill all of them plus several other species, whereas the traps will take care of the specific ones that are causing you the most nuisance.

Beware of the bag-traps; you will wind up attracting MORE beetles to your yard. (and the traps stink to high heaven when full!)
Best suggestion is to spray, several good options, but in my state if you go to hardware store, they CAN NOT recommend a product because of state law.
Anyway, your choices for spray are Malathion, Sevin, and one or two more.... (ie BugB Gone...) If you read the labels, they should cover nuisance pests like ants gnats, beetles, grubs......
Please try to spray when the wind is light and take precautions to keep pets off of wet treated areas.....

Wal-Mart, Home DEpot, they have them on displays right at the front door, knowing people are desperate with these things. If not, go to the garden section. The brand is "Spectracide"
Another thing I have noticed is, squish the bugs dead and leave them right on the leaves. His buddies despise teh scent of death, and will not come near that area until the rain washes it off...

I would suggest you get a Aquaponics system set up if you do not know what Aquaponics is, It is basically using fish to grow plants but the grow beds are mounted and out of the ground. The plants roots just sit in water filled with nutrients from the fish. Its cheap to get started and may be the future for your organic garden.

Have your trees and bushes professionally sprayed by someone like Chemlawn or any lawn service. Sevin (available at any Home Depot, Lowes, Nursery etc.) also works very well.
