I brought my 1 month old baby to the doctor and he spread her vagina open. He is supposed to do that?

Yeah I have an older daughter thats 5 yrs and her doctor never did that.

If felt uncomfortable when he did that and I wanted to ask him but he's the doctor so i figured he knows what he's doing. I still think that was wrong though.

Do you think I should follow a complaint?

Yes, as long as he didn't stick his finger in her it is ok. They have to make sure all of your daughters parts of formed and developing normally. This will continue through all her well baby visits, and if you have a boy the doctor will gently squeeze his testicles and pull back the skin of the penis.

Yeah they're supposed to do that. They check to make sure the vagina hasn't closed. Yes they can close. Well not technically close but they labia can become kinda stuck to the other side. It's called vaginal adhesion and my daughter had it when she was little. That's what they check for. Usually it happens because they don't have enough estrogen and it causes it to become closed. It's not a big deal though.

EDIT:

Well considering the smacking of the butt, then yeah I would definitely have said something. My daughter's first doctor I had to have switched because he was also being inappropriate and I just didn't like things he was doing. You should probably have said something and switch her doctor!

I have 3 kids, all boys though. When we went to their check ups, the Dr. checked their genitals. Including lifting, feeling, and gently squeezing their testicles. I would think it would be the same in comparison. There are a lot of things to check for some which have already been mentioned. They also look to make sure all swelling is going down. Anyone with kids know that they are born with rather swollen genitals. Also some girls actually bleed a little after birth so they would have to make sure that they weren't still. If your Dr. Just looked and moved on then all is O.K. Next time though, if you are worried ask your Dr. what he is doing, you have that right and they will explain it to you.

Yes they are suppose to do it. He was just checking to make sure everything is normal. Baby girls have a discharge when they are born for a few weeks you have to keep it clean so they won't get a yeast infection, I guess... My daughter is 8 months old and gets checked at all her well visits, we sometimes see the nurse practitioner(whom is a woman) and she does the same:) But you have every right to be concerned, there are alot of creeps out there:( To make yourself feel more comfortable if he does it next time(which I am sure he will) Just ask, he will have no problem explaining it to you. Be proud that you are a concerned mommy:)

When my baby had her first check up, the doctor did check her on that area. But he did explain it to me of why he was doing it. Your doctor should have asked you first and explained. But smacking the bum of your older daughter, can't see any reason why the doctor did that.

If it made you uncomfortable, then you should switch doctors. Your babies doctor is the last person you should not trust. Even if it was a normal procedure, as a mom when you get that yucky instinct about other adults and your children you should always trust it.

Spreading the infant's labia apart and looking at the vaginal vestibule and urethra is a normal part of the physical exam.

The doctor spanking your older child is unprofessional behavior.

Normally the doctor has to examine her vaginal area to see if everything is ok, make sure there's no infections, etc. if you're not sure about it, then ask the doctor what he's doing and why. You as the patient has the right to know about any procedure that is done or that is going to be done.

hi, i think of it somewhat is okay, as my primary practitioner asked me an identical element final twelve months. i think of that's because of the fact many females individuals on the age of 12 and 13 are achieving puberty and all that, so perhaps that's ok. it would additionally be because of the fact he stated you slightly and observed some issues, so perhaps he asked you that. yet in all, each and every of the questions different than the single approximately you having intercourse and all that, i think of that's o.k. for him to ask.

Yes. They are supposed to do that. They are looking for infection or yeast which is common with newborns - especially since you can pass thrush between mom & baby if she is breastfeeding.
He just looks quickly and then moves on. It's perfectly ok.
