i am sort of old school gamer i liked playing arcade games, snes, sega. I still like those games and i had a couple ideas on how to get ppl interested in the 2.5 Dim. sidescrollers and beat em ups, but i have this sinking feeling the game industry is beyond that point of being able to market those kind of games. What do you think?

The type of game i had in mind was like the dungeons and dragons series and final fight series, but just enhancing the graphics and not cartoonish or nothing. Also making a ton of exits and different places you can travel so its not just one basic path from beginning to end.

Those games do sell. Actually, that's most of what was being put on the Game Boy Advance. If the graphics made it worthwhile, and there was a good story...go for it. Who knows. May work.
