because people are conservative idiots. The book is perfectly fine, but they wouldn't know because they're "not allowed" to read it.

I am a fan of Harry Potter.
It`s exciting, its funny, it`s creative and incredible.
But these are the religious views that I have HEARD about it:
1) JK Rowling supposedly praises the devil. Apparently she raises the money from her books and invests it into some devil-worship or something evil magic-wise.
2) In the Bible (I`m not entirely sure) but it is said that God told everyone to burn the books they had on magic and anything of the like.
3) Magic is supposedly evil. In the books Harry Potter, JK Rowling talks about Witchcraft - the whole book`s foundation is practically Witchcraft, and if you are in the Christian religion I am in, magic and witchcraft and the like is against our religion hence the point in #2.
I may be religious, and I do have a very Christian family, but I believe Harry Potter is just a book. JK Rowling is none of my business, and she is a person with her own thoughts and beliefs. I cannot change what people believe. I can convince and persuade, but people with other religions that are opposite of mine truly believe in what they do and probably think what I believe in is ridiculous. Harry Potter is not real. Well.. I sure hope it isn`t ;) So I have nothing against it.
I am not sure if all of these are true, for it is what I`ve heard - especially number one. I don`t mean to pose any hate toward JK Rowling, the books of Harry Potter, and anyone of the Wicka religion or any religion whatsoever.
Hope I helped <3

Harry potter had no religion in it. Some of the thing referenced in it come from a very old practice called Wicca. All the books and movies are depicting is an elaborate fairy tale. People want to call it evil because god forbid life has a little bit of magic in.

Here you go. Don't feel bad these people still don't believe the world is round either.
Here's a biblical quote if no one has chimed in yet. It can be found with an interesting essay on your topic at the second link.
"There shall not be found among you anyone who …practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For all who do these things are an abomination to the LORD, and because of these abominations the LORD your God drives them out from before you. You shall be blameless before the LORD your God. For these nations which you will dispossess listened to soothsayers and diviners; but as for you, the LORD your God has not appointed such for you."
Deut. 18:10-14
BTW, thanks for your question. I forgot how funny it was to hear this stuff.

My grandma is very against Harry Potter. She's never read a book or seen a movie.
She is Catholic. In her opinion, the books are drawing people closer to the occult and Satanism. She thinks they influence people to believe that magic is real and that you really can practice witchcraft and make potions, etc. Kind of like it's promoting the occult and supporting it.
Hope that helps a little.

My best friend is an Assemblies of God minister, and she sees nothing wrong with the Potter books. But she's bright enough to know the difference between fiction/imagination and religious writings.

I don't know of any web sites. But many people think the books are evil because they promote witchcraft which is condemned in the Bible. God says that witchcraft is from Satan. Because of this many people are against the books.
God Bless!!

Just a book. Whatever evil is construed comes from the reader's own mind.
