It got that terminology because the first vector in America was a gay male flight attendant, I believe, and he contacted the virus in Africa. The virus was first seen to be running rampant thru the Western gay population in the early 80's. Doctors tried to discover what was calling the high mortality rate and when it was found, the gay population was the largest human group affected at the time.

Now the largest population that is being hurt is the heterosexual population throughout the world. It is exploding in Asia, Eastern Europe, India, Africa, and Russia. There are provinces in Uganda, it has been reported in which there are mostly only grandparents and grandchildren---the parents are dead.

In case this by itself does not reveal the depth of the disaster...think about this...with the parents dead, who works? Who sows the crops, who reaps the crops, who works to provide the services, who works in the stores, who drives the delivery trucks, etc, etc.?? The dead parents used to do these things to run the economy and now there is no one so the economy tanks and the life support systems also tank. This is one of the greatest hidden dangers that the HIV/AIDS epidemic poses. Extrapolate this catastrophe to the entire planet. Think about an entire productive generation gone and what it means.

Let me be the first to provide a link to real data.

2/3rds of all new AIDS cases in men are contracted by gay sex. 2/3rds of new cases for women are caused by having sex with men who have gay sex.

Gay sex and IV drug use are responsible for 9 out of 10 new cases of AIDS.

Since gays make only 10-15% of the community, 2/3rds of all cases is a very high number. And it is correctly called a gay mans disease.

the only reason it is universal as a gay affliction is with the help of the fact affected person 0 (the guy who incredibly delivered AIDS to usa and particular Europe) became into gay, for this reason all of it started greater with out delay throughout the time of the gay community. it may additionally be unfold via promptly intercourse with an HIV+ person, interior the eighty's blood transfusions unfold HIV, and IV drug use. alongside with different techniques. at present, AIDS's occurrence is increasing with out delay between heterosexuals (straights). AIDS isn't a gay correct affliction. With all of the counsel available at present that attitude isn't something yet ignorant.

Because in the 1980's gay men were predominantly known to get aids. I always heard that AIDS was punishment for homosexual behavior, then why weren't lesbians affected?

Personally just bullsh*t. Statistically gay men don't really use condoms which is big problem as with no cure as much protection as possible is needed. However body fluids include blood, and semen including in anus. You can't transmit by things like kissing or holding hands. So people should get their partner checked out before, no matter what they say, they might even not know.

Straight people tend to use condoms to prevent pregnancy - which decreased their chances to contract HIV. It is difficult (though not impossible) for women to transmit the virus to one another. Gay men are not worried about pregnancy and tended to not use condoms at the beginning of the HIV crisis, so it ran rampant in that community. FYI - Black women is one of the fastest growing segments for contracting HIV at this time.

That's because lesbians don't have unprotected rough anal sex.
