So like I said. Do you prefer the books over the movies or the movies over the books? I myself adore them equally. :D

I like them both in different ways. (Except the Two Towers movie...........that was just plain badly done by book standards). I have my issues with the movies....Arwen for one, the absence of Tom, the Scouring of the Shire....(anyone who's read the books knows what I'm talking about). But I do love that the movies finally brought a long time beloved story of mine out of my imagination and into waking. Peter Jackson did a fantastic job. Though, given a choice, I would take the books over the movies any day of the week.

I like the movies, which are fun to watch. But if you want to move in to Middle Earth then the books are the way to go- you can read a little at a time, and revisit the parts you like the best. So they last much longer.

Also many of the the themes developed by Tolkein in the trilogy remained undeveloped in the movies- there just was not enough time for such a complex story to be fully developed.

On the whole, the movies were just about as faithful to the book as anyone could have wished, but they have their limitations. My own imagination provided better special effects than what could be produced onscreen.

More terrifying is the monster that lurks in the shadows.

I like the movies, but I prefer the books. A lot is left out in the movies. Tom Bombadil and the battle for the Shire are the two things I miss the most when I watch the movies.
