OK...Last year, 5 people I knew - 3 girls + 2 boys - died in a horrific car accident that wasn't drug or alcohol related. They were good, very well-liked, spunky kids. They weren't all over the national news, their families/friends weren't on the Today show, they weren't getting called by People magazine.

Yet, this year, 5 girls - they were cheerleaders - died in a horrific car accident, wasn't alcohol or drug related, and they're all over the news, family/friends on the Today show, in People magazine.

WTF? I feel bad for being mad about that but I really am. What makes them so much better or newsworthier than the people I knew? Both accidents lost innocent young lives and their families and friends loved them just as much! I really hate that this pisses me off because I feel like I shouldn't feel this way.

I do feel so bad for all the families, I really do...I just started thinking about this and it just sorta got me mad...it's like...why did that one get all that attention? Not like it's anything to want to be in the public eye over, I'm just wondering!

i wish i could explain it better!

And to the first person: I DON'T want to be on TV! WTF are you talking about? This isn't even ABOUT me, it's about them and the differences between the coverage of the stories! Why don't you quit it with your attitude?

Calling me jealous is just a really ignorant thing to say...really. I find it offensive, actually, considering those accusing me of being jealous don't even know the full story. All I can say is that concluding me to be a jealous person is a totally, completely INCORRECT assessment.

No, you shouldn't be mad. You should be sympathetic to all families who lost children in accidents.

Maybe they don't want the attention and just want to get on with their lives and grieve privately.

A traumatic loss like this does not define those now gone. By publicizing every graphic detail, it dehumanizes people and instead of healing, it just feeds some sick curiosity.

It really depends on the producers and what they deem "newsworthy". I agree with you 100%, the news can't coverage everything, but what it doesn't coverage pisses a lot of people off because they can't figure out why their friends aren't as important. In the case of the cheerleaders the producers probably latched on to the proximity to graduation and the fiery and gory details. Sorry about your friends and you do have a right to be pissed at main stream media.

You have every right to be upset with our Leftist,Elitist media, that only tells us what they want us to know. They only pick the stories they want to exploit.
Unfortunately, until more people wake up to this fact and start boycotting all news outlets that are biased this way,and let their voices be heard,it will not change.

it's "luck" of the draw... perhaps the news of the days around your incident was more "important" than a sad story about an auto accident... the media is a strange collective... they will often pick up on the same stories, regardless of their social significance out of laziness or not wanting to be bested by competitors within

but are you jealous because you didn't get on TV?

Thats like asking why are some runaway kids on CNN. I understand its a very sad thing but should it be national news? And what makes that one particular kid so special?

it's ok to be mad but you will get passed it. i too get mad when i see this but then i remember the families and lend my thoughts and prayers for them to deal with their lost. after all it was their lost ... not the media's.
