He gets phone calls at least twice a day from the same debt. He let them know that everything will be current on his payday next Thursday, but they insist on calling back (sometimes as late as 21:30-22:30 central time), what seem like every four to six hours a day. What can he do to get the phone calls to stop before he gets his debt current. I have been around him many times when they call, and it gets quite annoying. What do you guys think?

He just told me he owes about $350 for this month and last months payment. His car died last month, and his two paychecks had to go into fixing bent valves in his engine. He also just told me they just called his grandmother (his co-signer) and they call her about twice a day. He just ignored a phone call about an hour ago, and then they just proceeded to call his grandmother. It's a collection agency that is calling him and his grandmother.

If they reach the person that owes the debt they are only allowed to call once a day between the hours of 8 am to 8 pm. Tell him to write to his congressman and get the attorney general to file charges against them. THen net time they call inform them of what he is doing. That is in fact harassment and is not allowed by federal collection rules, and they can be fined, or have their license revoked.

Hi, just do like your mother in law does and hang up on them without saying anything else, say "bye" and that is it. Then you can try and do everything other posters here suggested to do so long as you don't get these calls get hold of you in any way, do not explain anything to them or communicate, just say a polite "bye" and hang up. They'll eventually get the message. You could also have an answering machine to screen the calls, this would have the added benefit of getting these harassers on tape. Good luck.

Well, if his debts will be taken care of in another week, tell him to just screen his calls for the next week. Don't pick up the phone and let it go to voicemail.
Or turn the tables on them and ask to speak to the manager/supervisor/owner so that he can explain the situation to them, and thereby save everyone a lot of wasted time.

If it is a third party debt collector (collection agency) , see myfairdebt.com.

If it is the original creditor or a business debt, not much you can do besides documenting the calls and filing a telephone harassment charge.

If he can get current next Thursday, just unplug the phone for a week. Anything you do to stop them will take longer than a week.

Don't answer the phone, and pay them as soon as possible.
