I have a somewhat small tv room maybe 11x11 but there's a protruding external closet by the doorway and it makes the room very difficult to deal with.

My mother used to do realty and advised I not remove the closet because I would lose a bedroom, making this a 3 bedroom house and not a 4. I'm only staying about 6 years which she describes as not long.

Right now, the tv (32 inch standard) is on a tv stand in front of the closet door and the 2 couches are on the wall facing the tv and facing the doorway.

The closet is not used and the tv blocks the door.
I also eventually plan on getting a flat screen
I was thinking of reconfiguring the closet so the door would be adjacent to the doorway.

What can I do?
I AM STUCK.

approximate plan:

It's a good idea to keep a closet. If it wasn't too expensive, maybe you could get someone to extend the closet the whole length of the wall where it is now, so that it is a walk in. That gains you something and yet keeps the closet in the room. But you have a wall to deal with instead of something protruding. It shouldn't be too expensive to have that done. The only really pricey part of it, I think, is having a light inside the walk-in closet.
I have a similar situation in a tv room and I use the closet. You can always use a closet for something - in my case, it's got some shelves and so I could put DVDs in there.
You could just remove the couches too and that would give you more room and more options where to put that flat-screen tv.
Instead of having couches, I'd just have big pillows on the floor and maybe one chaise. It's a small room and it's only being used for TV so anything that's comfortable would work.

Remove the closet.

A simple closet like that would cost you about $500 to have a carpenter replace for you later on. Besides, after it's all painted up and stuff, it looks like it would be a perfect place for an entertainment center. And a buyer might like that better than a tiny closet.

Hi there, I would remove the closet doors (To be put back on when trying to sell it), and put the stand in there, it will make more room. You can also remove the curtain rod (again to be put back on at a later date). If you wanted to , you could leave the doors on and put the t.v. in there, and just open the doors when the t.v. is in use. Hope this helped! P.S. I agree with your Mom about not removing it.
