By giving them an ultimatum - they can either take me as I am or leave me as is with no upgrades or alterations, just me.

That entirely depends on the person and the context Charms.
If it's a personal mentor and someone I trust, I listen wholeheartedly and try to apply whatever it is they see that I need to be doing.
I learned the value of an open mind and coaching from a very young age. Critiquing is how you improve yourself and your performance.
However, if it's someone that really is just being rude or doesn't have reason to be doing what they're doing, I'm direct with them about space.
I always try and be clear, even if it's difficult to do. It isn't always perfect of course, I'm human, but I try.

I tried that route before, but they'll never be happy with you and they'll make you end up unhappy with yourself. Find someone who loves the way you are and encourages you to flourish into an even more evolved version of yourself (I hope that made sense the way I put it)

charmz the only and best way is to tell the person what you really feel, tell the person that you appreciate his/her concern but he/she should respect what you want, who you are and you dignity as a person. That person should accept you for you really are,if it's you the person is trying to change then that person shouldnt!you are beautiful just the way you are =)

I don't deal with such person, if he can't take me, who & what I am, it's better to leave me alone... specially when I know that I'm doing fair and well with other poeple

Tell them that their way of life is not fit for you and you would appreciate it if they stopped trying to make decisions for you.

Depends on who it is.
If it is your mate, I would say "goodbye", in fact...I did. Found someones who loves me just the way that I am. Not that I don't bug the Crap out of him with my annoying habits but you get it...
