do you think Islamic terrorists should get 'prisoner of war' status and special treatment in UK prisons, as an Islamic lawyer has been talking about in the news recently after one of her 'terror mastermind' clients, who is serving time, got attacked whilst in nick?

No. They are common criminals, we tried and sentenced them as such, and they should have the same privileges and restrictions as any other criminals in prison.

Same as any other inmate in prison, they should expect some level of protection from other prisoners. If this means solitary confinement, fine - that's what happens with other 'unpopular' prisoners.

Prince_Henry is wrong to say that Irish Terrorists had Prisoner of War status, not even the infamous hunger strikes of the 1980s and death of Bobby Sands and nine others could bring this about. Also, the prison rule to which he is referring is Rule 43 and not Rule 42. Of course these terrorists need to be protected whilst in prison from the wrath of misinformed and opinionated people such as Prince_Henry , to do less would make us as bad as the criminals that we are imprisoning.

Hi!

Technically we as a nation have invoked the Geneva convention by declaring a war on terrorism, thus giving this lawyer grounds to pursue this line. However, my feeling is no. I would, though, wish to protect all prisoners from brutality in prison. Taking dangerous people out of circulation is the right thing to do, but we only create more dangerous people and serve no good for society by ourselves resorting to cruelty or by condoning prison pecking orders.

Good wishes.

Under the laws of Armed Conflict terrorists are not prisoners of war. This is international law under the Geneva Conventions. Terrorist got attacked in prison then put him in solitary. When hes served his time extradite him. Obviously sounds as if he is getting special treatment.

They should be given the same status the RA and loyalist prisoners were given (after it had been taken away - the results being the Hunger Strike) - that of political prisoners.

No. I would not seek to justify their actions by calling them either terrorists or war prisoners. They are murderers and should be treated as such

No. If they don't want to wage a conventional war and abide by the international rules of warfare, they shouldn't be treated as war criminals. They deserve whatever happens to them in prison.

They should be treated the same way as Irish Nationalists, or American terrorists like Tim McVeigh and Ted Kaczynski. Their religion does not make their actions different from any other violent mass murder...
