For learning to crochet, just type "crochet tutorial" into google or whatever search engine you use. Also, try Lion Brand yarn's website for very good online crochet and knit lessons and free patterns.

How to read a pattern instruction on the internet. Be sure to scroll all the way to the bottom of the screen. Lots of good stuff there and a free pattern:

The best bet to find a good fit for you would be to google the various things you want to learn (it's "crochet" by the way) and decide for yourself! What helps one person may not help another.
There are "For Dummies" books, which I find helpful for most things.
I personally find that taking classes for such things is the easiest route. Craft stores, fabric stores, etc. often have cheap or free classes for these!
Good luck!

You can google it, but I prefer to go to the library and take out "Sewing for Dummies" and "Knitting and Crocheting for Dummies". I don't buy books if I can help it. Also, yard sales and flea markets may have craft books.

Have you tried checking About.com? In their hobbies section they have stuff on crochet, cross-stitch, sewing and knitting that includes how-to material.
