MRSA is an antibiotic resistant form of staph infection. If not treated it could lead to death and most will not go away with out treatment. The hospital is the best place for him so that he can get rest and IV antibiotics. I went through the whole staph infection a few weeks ago. Regular antibiotics weren't working and I had to have IV antibiotics to get over it. Make sure your family is using an antibacterial soap and lots of hand gel to keep from passing it back and forth between family members. Those are nasty infections. I was on Cubamicin. The other known drug via IV is Vacomycin.

I would recomend checking if the hospital are treating the wound with Flamazine...in my experiance it's the best topical medication for MRSA. Although i cannot say for sure it will help as I have not seen the wound.
Tea tree is used in Australasia for swabbing/cleaning wards etc, and they have a very small occurance of the bug...... treat nature with nature, less likely to form a resistance.
As far as a natural remedy in the form of food, I am unsure.
Wounds in general require Vit C and zinc to aid the healing process. Also garlic is good for the immune system, and honey has all sorts of healing properties so it may help.
Large wounds use a lot of energy to heal so make sure your Dad is getting enough, good quality food, or a food supplement such as fortisip.
My Nan had an op. in Feb, and due to poor nursing care she contracted mrsa & only came home this week. It's a long hall but there is light at the end of it.
Hope your Dad recovers soon,
Blessings to you both

Some of the other therapies I am aware of are the use of colloidal silver, and the use of hyperbaric oxygen chambers in dealing with large, resistant to healing skin wounds. Please go online and review these. I also support those who mentioned garlic, sunlight and an excellent diet. There is also a therapy where sterilized fly larva (maggots) are used to debride wounds and to clear up infection. You could run this by your dad's doctor and see what he says. I know it sounds both gross and way out there, but it literally has been used for thousands of years. Propolis and/or royal jelly would both be extremely helpful as would myrrh and goldenseal or comfrey salve or tincure.
The hospital will give you an incredibly hard time about any and all of these, believe me, I've been there before. Do what you and your father feel is right, especially if what the hospital is doing is not working. It is your absolute right as a patient. Ditto the Vitamin C and Zinc. Someone mentioned tea tree oil. It is an excellent, excellent idea, and I believe it is used clinically in Australia, so you might be able to get this one by the hospital with a minimum of flack if you were able to show them some Australian, German, Tasmanian or New Zealand studies on the use of Melaleucca to heal MRSA or to treat intractible skin wounds. Do a search under those and under "Melaleucca + decubitous ulcers" too.

I'm very sorry to hear about your Dad and his MRSA - it has become so widespread now in hospitals and so difficult to treat and eradicate.
Be assured that the hospital will be doing everything they can to try and clear the infection with any antibiotic they can find.
I don't know of any simple natural thing available which would help the healing, but there are many foods which are said to boost the immune system; maybe some of those would give your Dad a little help in fighting it himself. At least he will feel that he is doing something positive and that is often half the battle.
I've just had a quick look at the web - I asked for "Immune System Building Foods" and there are quite a few web sites which have come up. You might like to try for yourself and do a bit of reading. VA x

Hi Gobilina,
There is a product that could possibly help. We are using it and have had wonderful results. I (Abbye) am a diabetic, have had many problems and it has done so much for me.
This product is a natural dietary supplement that is built around the Acai Berry. Due to the restrictions on this board and trying to stay within the guidelines, this is about all I can tell you here. Although everyone "Should Know" about this product.
Go to the resource below, watch the video, read the science then read my story. If you would like contact us by email, you will find our email address in our public profile.
You will be glad you did.
Sincerely,
Abbye

i'm not a qualified medical person, but i do know that tea tree is antiviral/antifungal/antibiotic so a mild solution of this might help to stop the infection spreading and may even help clear it up. also lavender oil has been scientifically proven to speed up the skins own healing process to a rate that is seven times faster than normal. these things in conjunction with the antibiotics prescribed should speed up the healing process. wash your hands when your near him and when you leave him, be clean and even maybe swab down the room/bed that he is in with a solution of tea tree. it's also a good idea to burn it in an oil burner in the room as it will help to kill any other bugs that are floating around, your dad doesn't need anything else to cope with!!! i wish you well and i hope that your dad makes a very speedy recovery!

If it were me, I'd try olive leaf extract and freshly grated garlic.
Antibiotics are the standard useless treatment. That's a strong statement to make, so there's a link to microscopic videos to back it up. The microscope can see live viruses.
On the video you'll see a virus transform into a bacteria and then into a fungus. All bacteria do this. So at any given moment, some of the bacteria are in the viral stage and others are in a fungal stage.
Given that these microbes go back and forth from one form to another, it is impossible to kill them all off with antibiotics. But you can make super bugs! Plus extended use of antibiotics has it's own life threatening risks.
Olive leaf extract and garlic are antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal. This is a no brainer.
Good luck and be well.

I'm sorry to hear that, and I am not aware of any natural remedies, what i do know is that once upon a time, hospitals used to smell awful and made me feel sick, they don't any more, apparently, this is because matron used to have the walls, floors and everything washed down with disinfectants (or something), cut backs, privatised cleaning and no matrons are the sole reason for mrsa.

I am sorry but this is a serious infection that is a battle for even the best conventional medicine can offer. It is unrealistic to seek or expect there to be any natural answer to your dad's problem. He should eat a well balanced diet, with plenty of fruit and veg and listen to his medical advisers. They may well not be perfect and everything does not always come out in the the way we would wish. They are however his best hope and will be trying their best.
