We need those dollars spent here at home. Not given to cronies or 'lost' in Iraq.

The surge is not working and will never work because the Iraqi people are not keeping up their end of the bargain. Remember they failed to meet 10 out of the 18 benchmarks that were designed to be the Iraqi part of the surge.
Why should we stay one day longer if the Iraqis are not willing to aid in their own security and establish a stable society?

If the surge works and we are able to continue holding the Iranians at bay, the dems have nothing to base a win in '08 upon.

Well, we have just spent too much money already. I mean nothing has really improved there in all the time we have already spent... It just wasn't worth the investment of lives or money.... and it just doesn't look like any surge will dramatically change anything for years... who wants to wait? Where will get the money for more years? Where will we get the troops to continue this? No one is enlisting and the current soldiers are going back for third and fourth tours... that is unheard of.

Gee, I don't know why don't you deploy over there and ask this question again.... Maybe because by the time the surge outcome satisfies your curiosity over 100 more soldiers will have given their lives.
It ISN'T working... Will never work. You can't win a war against a nation that has been fighting for 14 centuries.

What 's wrong with 1. more dead Americans 2. more terrorists? You tell me!
The invasion of Iraq let al-Qa'ida get away and made more Muslims think they have to join them to be safe from us. We need to get out, not like we got out of Vietnam, but carefully, with a plan for what happens next. Then we need to go after the people who attacked us on 9/11 and got away with it.

Because it is an irrational and illogical conclusion to think that this "surge" will succeed at anything other than wasting more lives and money.
Those resources would be more effectively used elsewhere.

What would be so bad?
Umm, countless human lives lost because of an egomaniacal executive branch and business-controlled politics?
You act like war is just a silly game. What could be so bad? What a monstrous question.

4 years of failed Bush policy in Iraq is what is wrong. He has burned his credibility for formulating a feasible plan.
and do you really want to test theories with human lives as the price you pay? I'd rather get someone in who doesn't screw everything up and give them a shot at fixing things.

The liberals declared the surge a failure before it even started. Now that it has actually started, they can say it's even more of a failure. Even if it works its a failure. Go figure.
