Apparently people are getting that all of the even numbered answers are racist and the odd numbered ones are not...glad to see there's still hope for humanity!

Racism is a learned behavior, people are not born that way. To say we are born racist is to imply God is a racist also. Do not let "beating a racist" be your motivation but be motivated with a teaching spirit. I am a white male and the racism I see today is based on pure ignorance. An uneducated man who does not appreciate other races was taught to hate and that is difficult to undo. Certain stereotypes have been fed into the minds of young people and when that person observes those stereotypes being acted out, their ignorance is solidified. No matter your race, your responsibility is to be above reproach and not give your oppressor fuel for his hate. Be available for criticism and questions and never let your guard down. If someone demonstrates racist behavior towards you, they are expecting a behavior from you to support their ignorant beliefs. Rise above the hate and understand the racism is not personal but is from a lack of education. Racist are ignorant people and have no true foundation for their hatred. Be a man (or woman) of distinction and do not let the hatred cause you to compromise your values. Do not return hate with hate, nothing gets resolved. I am in customer service, and when certain people start using racist words, I let them know how offended I am and they shut up quickly. They assume everyone thinks like them but they need to understand they are offensive. Black, Asian, Hispanic, or any minority for that matter, your greatest weapon to combat racism is education and honest communication. If an ignorant racist wants to live a lie, permit him to do so, but do not sink to his level by allowing his ignorance to impact your life. We unfortunately cannot change the hearts of man, but as a minority, do not let racism be a stumbling block in your life. Pursue your dreams and all you are entitled to for this is the will of God. The racist man (or woman) is truly a miserable individual for they lack color in their life. Literally! The beauty every culture has to offer enhances my life, and as a white man, my life would be far less engaging if the whole world was white. Scripture teaches us "love your enemy and pray for those who persucute you". The eye for an eye mentality is a lie and scripture does not teach to exact revenge on our enemy. That passage has been taken out of context. I am truly saddened by the racism that is in our society today but I believe we have a brighter future ahead of us. If you experience racism in your life, the healing must begin with you. You literally control your own destiny and can be the one who sets the stage for the next generation.

Treat others the same way that you would like to be treated. Accept and appreciate people for who they are and don't make conclusions about people based on what others say. Race, nationality, skin color and culture, we are all so different but we all have the same basic needs as human beings. We all need to be loved, we all have feelings, and just because we are different, doesn't mean that we are strange. We all have a lot to learn from one another. Enjoy the experience and heighten your own awareness of what it is to be unique.

Well, I can tell you what my parents did in our household. They taught us that people were people...we all are one family. We also regularly went to a place of worship where the congregation was made up of people from all different backgrounds. We had friends who were off all different backgrounds and nationalities...Mexican, Black, Japanese, Vietnamese, Ethiopian, Cambodian, Jewish, Chinese, Greek, Puerto Rican, Russian, Polish, Nigerian, Iraqi, Palestinian etc. (as you can probably tell...we lived in a VERY multi-cultural area of Chicago). These people were our friends...the ones we hung out with, had over for dinner...so learning about and respecting their cultures just happened naturally.
I must say, too, that one of the things you mentioned...participating in heritage festivals...was something that we did, too. I particularly LOVED those times. There used to be an annual event in Chicago called the International Folk Fair where there were booths set up with items from the different countries, folk dances and food you could try from each of the countries. I had THE BEST time at those festivals...
Anyway...thanks to our parents, my sis and I learned to accept and love people no matter what race, religion, economic background or level of education and I am grateful for that. It has enriched our lives tremendously. Bigots miss out on SO much, don't they??
(sorry for the longwinded answer, but it is something I am passionate about...)

You have some very good points here, to me the best way to overcome racism is to make people realize we all bleed red and everyone should walk in love..when you walk in love you dont see the color of the skin..but the heart of the person..

one must realize that everyone is human.... as much as so,e like to deny it we all long for something and although many may not know it what they long for is love if we all have that in common and we realize and act upon it then a racist can be beat

OR

if one realizes that a little thing such as color doesn't or shouldn't put us in categories and that NOBODY COULD help what color they were born one did not have control over it therefore no one should be discriminated on things they could not control.

Well first you need to find a blunt object.........seriously though, I like your first idea. Racism is a disease that gets handed down from generation to generation, so the cure is to prevent it in our children. I've never met a racist who didn't also have at least one racist parent.
