I think it's a great move for him, personally. There was no need to keep the paparazzi gimmick with him since Melina's still using it and the two aren't even associated with each other anymore and are on two different brands.
I would guess that he'll still be Johnny Nitro in the game, due to the fact that they changed the gimmick so close to the release of the game, however, I heard that the programmers have had to go back and delete Chris Benoit out of the game, so you never know, they might go ahead and update Nitro while they're at it.

The reason ifigure he got a gimmick change is because they needed to get him as far away from meline, as far away from mnm, and as far away from his i.c title jobber gimmick. His nitro gimmick wasnt really a main event style gimmick
The result of the new gimmick is therefore to make him a bigger star and more recognisable as a character, rather than "that guy with the women who screamed". This may aslo bring more credibility to the ecw title.
I am guessing both nitro and booker will have the morrison and king names and appearances.

Most likely in game we will be John Morrison...
I still know him as Nitro - regardless of this stupid change.
As well as I know Booker as Booker T. He is no King in my eyes.

I know they probally figured out every superstar that theres gonna be in 08 and if Johnny Nitro or John Morrison is in there his name will be Johnny Nitro

The Nitro Name was a reference to Eric Bishoff and Monday Nitro.
I'm Guessing here but seeing as ECW goes out on tuesdays that he had to drop the name plus Vince would like to wipe out any trace in peoples mind that at one stage another show had him backed into a corner.

he's not on the same show as Melina anymore, so they gave him what he desperately needed. A new look, a new name, new music.
I love the John Morrison character. Obviously, it's in reference to Jim Morrison from the Doors, so I am in favor of it.
and Johnny Nitro isn't his real name, his real name is John Hennigan.
