Simple reply... hell yes.

In working at a zoo I see it all the time, mostly in primates but I have seen it in species of birds, canids, felines, hoofstock... you name it.

Most animals (in which the parents care for the offspring) are weaned when they reach sexual maturity. Adolescence is when they start surviving on their own and trying to attract mates.
