The sky is blue as a result of Raleigh scattering and the fact that blue light is refracted more than the red, hence the colour we perceive the sky to be is blue.
The grass is green primarily because it contains the pigment chlorophyll. Chlorophyll contains a 'porphin ring' consisting of conjugated double bonds which acts as a chromophore. This basically means electrons are delocalised across the molecule, and absorb light energy to become 'promoted'. Green light is emitted as a result of this extra energy being released when the electrons return to ground state.

The sky is blue because molecules in the air scatter blue light from the sun more than they scatter red light. When we look towards the sun at sunset, we see red and orange colours because the blue light has been scattered out and away from the line of sight.
The grass is green because all of the colors in the rainbow are absorbed into the leaves of the grass except green.

Grass is green due to chloropyhll which does all the energy making and I'm told the blue of the sky is to do with the reflection of the sea, but I think my pals are winding me up!

Hi there.
The sky is feeling blue because it is cut off from Britain by horrible rain clouds. The grass is green with envy as it is sick of being rained on.
I could give the scientific version too, but it has already been done.
Cheers, Steve.

The sky reflects blue light, the grass reflects green light. Every color we see is because that object is reflecting that color light. Most objects reflect their own color. Like grass. Grass is green because chlorophyll is in it. Because it's green, it reflects green light. However, some things, like the sky, doesn't reflect it's own color. It's not blue, but it reflects blue light.
