1. Check minimum system requirements for vista. I'd advise to ignore the 512MB RAM, and take double - 1GB RAM as
minimum.

2. Run this piece of software from Microsoft on the computer if it is still running XP.

Some newer XP systems are VISTA ready, but some aren't. It really depends on the computer manufacturer.

Hey man, As long as you got enough Ram and your CPU meet the minimum requirement, Windows Vista will work but may not work perfectly. Most of the general hardware will work...but for graphics card, wireless card, ethernet card and like hardware that require specific drivers, it may not work because of the driver support. Before you make the jump, I suggest you to check for the driver support for your video card and andy specific hardware...see if they provide drivers for Windows vista.
