what do you mean by board certified? I've never heard that term used for lawyers. Maybe you are wondering if your lawyer is admitted to practice and in good standing in your state? this is a good question to ask if you're using a lawyer, as there are plenty of quacks out there. in some states atty registration is handled by the bar association and in others it's the judiciary. this chart gives you contacts for the proper atty registration authorities in all 50 states: http://www.abanet

First answer is correct.... contact your local state bar.

The term "board certified" is generally only used in the medical profession. Some states (not all) have a concept of being a certified specialist in one or more areas of the law. But that only affects whether they can call themselves a certified specialist.

In the US, once an attorney is licensed to practice law, that's it. And you can verify who is licensed to practice by contacting your local state bar.

Ask him. By the way, board certification (in my opinion) doesn't mean a whole lot.
