There is so-called “Theistic Satanism” in which the followers believe in a personification. Then there are the so-called “Atheist Satanists” which Satan is a symbol of defiance against hypocrisy. LaVey himself seemed cloudy on the whole issue according to former followers. Michael Aquino commented that at times LaVey seemed to speak of Satan as a “dark force of nature” and not a literal thing, and then there were other times he seemed to think Satan was a personification, even calling the devil “the man downstairs”.

Like all occultists, LaVey is very overrated. Despite the resume LaVey invented for himself, he was a high school dropout who didn’t have much of an interesting life. Hence, he lied about his achievements. He was never a lion tamer for any circus, nor a police photographer, nor did he ever meet Marylyn Monroe. Jane Mansfield merely used him for publicity and used to friends listen in on their phone conversations when LaVey would cal her trying to make her his lover. One can picture all the ladies giggling on the other phone as Mansfield egged him on. He was also not cast as the devil in “Rosemary’s Baby”. He had no college degree, other than his “Doctor of Satanic Theology” he awarded himself. Print one out on your home computer, and you’ll have the same thing.

Satanic magic of any kind, theistic or other wise, simply does not work. Nor does it work as a "philosophy". LaVey told his followers they would have mastery over the earth…but LaVey himself failed to achieve it. He died bankrupt in a broken down old house he no longer owned, having sold it to a real estate developer. Dying in poverty hardly requires a “humanistic philosophy” (which Satanism actually isn’t) nor does it require Satanic “magic”. LaVey was however consistent with other occultists who also died in poverty, including Crowley, Mathers, Cagliostro, Kelly and Dee. http://usminc.org/famous.html

Both Theistic and Atheistic Satanists live out their lives vicariously through LaVey. When it comes right down to it, there is no difference…they both follow a fraud. It seems to attract people who are angry and often attracts criminal types http://usminc.org/crime.html . LaVey himself could be considered a criminal. His family admits he "pimped out" female followers and beat them when they didn't bring back enough money which LaVey called his 'Satanic Sex Therapy". He beat his wife, Diane, all throughout their marriage. He was the passive witness to the molestation of his grandson, according to daughter Zeena. He admitted to a Satanic "cannibal feast" on at least one occasion.

Remember, a "junkyard philosopher" deals only in junk.

Satanism does not actually preach a full on religion. Whilst many people assume that it means sacrificing babies in cemetaries at midnight, most people who are followers of satan, follow only his words and laws.

Where as wicca has its do what ye will but harm none, satanism has its do what you will.

It does not really follow satan as a god (not in anyway i have heard anyway) but more of a role model. He is the father of lies and he does not hide it, he is what he is.

Basically the person who put the list up is right. It is a lot akin to basic instinct. It worships power rather than weakness, believes that to keep the population going then weakness should be destroyed so's only the pure strains survive.

Most of all, its the fact that you can do whatever you want and have no divine justice to face at the end. What the person does is upto that person.

Anton Szander Lavey's 'The Satanic Bible' says it well. A person is not bound to sleep with 1 person. They can bed as many as they please, or stick with just the 1. The choice is theirs. They are not told do this or that.

As for 'powers' there are no powers. Witchcraft is a lifetime study, takes years to accomplish the most basic thing. There is nothing like tv's Sabrina where you click your fingers, it requires ritual and spellcrafting which takes hours of preparation, then about a further hour or longer for the ritual. And yes, some satanists do use it, but its not part of the religion.

Hee. Yes, anyone can become a satanist, but it's more a philosophical system akin to spiritual libertarianism than a fast, cheap road to supervillainy.

But if you ever do find a way to acquire powers, let me know.

*sighs* Satanists do not have powers. They do rituals and whatnot, yeah, but they cannot kill with a single glance or mind-read or anything else, and they do not explode on contact with crosses, holy water, or any other nonsense.
You probably shouldn't watch Sci Fi so much. Satanism is a philosophy, not a superpowered race of transcendental beings.

You have always had the power to choose your belief system. Before making any choice, be sure to gather as much information as you can so to make the wisest of choices. Also talk to those who have chosen that path to gather perspective. As for the "power", I am not sure what you are really looking for. If it is television magic, you will never find it; however, if you are looking for inner magic, simply listen to your inner voice. Become knowledgeable, be wise, and listen to your heart.
