I'm looking to buy a Mercedes 91 E300 with 296 thousand miles in it. The lady says they are hwy miles and the interior and exterior are in mint condition. She is asking for 1000 but I can offer less. Is this car gonna die on me or can it take more miles?

Every mile is a gift at this point. But for $600, there's not a lot of risk.

If it is runs it is worth at least $600. It is high miles, but if the interior and exterior are mint, chances are it has been properly maintained.
Take a chance on it. If it dies on you, you are only out $600.

if it was well taken care of, it will go for a while. See if there are receipts for service on it. Also, if you get it, go get a tune up right away.

If I were you I'd ask to test drive it and take it to a shop for a free inspection...maybe a few shops.

I'd buy it, just because I know a lot about how to fix cars and if anything happened to it, I could just replace the motor or transmission or whatever.

I'm pretty sure it could take more miles....hell who really cares, if you only put 600 into, you could really just get it fixed. I would assume a mercedes is worth fixing up, correct? you run the risk of ANY car breaking down. So why not buy a luxury car for cheap?

I'd buy it, your initial investment is low enough to absorb some repair or replacement costs down the road. You should have a decent life out of it if it has been well maintained by the previous owner(s). If there are any signs of neglect, pass it up.

A properly maintained car will still give you decent service and is worth the money if the body is mint. however, any repairs this car might need will be very expensive so check it out closely. Road test, check all equiptment, see if she kept service and maintainence records.

looks like a good buy to me

Id say no. If it runs now it something will eventuall break in the near future (296k) If you can even find parts for it you wold be considered very lucky. My buddy replaced the window wiper motor in his C320 for a mere $750.00. You could replace the engine and transmission in any 91 honda or toyota for $750.00(pretty much)

If you can get it for $600 buy it and drive it til it dies,If you get two months out of it you're ahead of the game. When it dies, sell it for parts for $500 !

If it's in "mint" condition appearance-wise I'd jump all over it for that price.
