Cloned a cat for a lot of money. If they can clone a cat why cant they clone this mammoth once?

They can't clone the mammoth, because the cells need to be a certain condition to be cloned.
It's just not really possible or practical...yet.

Its DNA may have degraded over that huge time period so that it is unrecoverable. The process of cloning is as follows:
1) Separate DNA from one of the target's cells.
2) Implant this DNA into a makeshift sperm cell.
3) Inject that sperm into an egg cell.
4) Implant that egg cell in a surrogate mother, and let gestate as normal.
If the mammoth was male, it won't have any egg cells to use. Also, since none are alive today it'd be hard to find a surrogate to implant the egg in. Elephants are the closest, but i bet problems with gestation period and size would ensue.

Because to clone a animal you need another of the same animal (a female). Clones don't just appear they are breeded but the baby animal is exactly the same as the original.

Cats are little and cuddly and eat cat chow
Mammoths are huge and eat stuff that's might not exist any more. Plus, they are social animals so you'd have to clone a bunch to keep them happy and who is going to pony up the dough for that?
And this is disregarding all the actual science behind cloning.

However, we also do not have the entire genome sequence mapped out for a mammoth, and I do not think that we ever will, seeing as they are extinct.

wow r u serious? 10,000 years old? well if the cats r alive they can but if they r dead then they cant .. but i mean if the americans can spend their time invading another country for war,, and so they cant do these things which r more important? americans like to waste money and knowledge. i suggest u all move to Pakistan and pray 2 allah. it will help u.

Why?? Well, it would take Motivation ?? what would they learn from a wooly mammoth?? And It would take a lot of $$$
money, which might better be spent on cancer/other research !
