How can I kill it. I tried peanut butter but it seems like the mouse licked it off the trap. Is cheese better?

Different methods of mice control
In movies mice are cute, furry creatures. But when they're in your apartment, nibbling away at cereal boxes and leaving little brown poop pellets, they're pests. They also pose a health risk, because their droppings may contain the virus that causes the fatal disease, hantavirus pulmonary syndrome.

If you have mice in your homes, take steps immediately to clean the mouse droppings. Then learn how to get rid of mice by brushing up on the different methods of mouse control. Some ways are cheaper. Others are more humane. And some are not recommended. Below is a list of common ways to get rid of mice.

Mouse glue traps. These are an affordable, but very inhumane way to get rid of mice. Plus, the affects could be dangerous to your own health.

Mouse poisons. Mouse poison is not a recommended way to get rid of mice.

Live mouse traps. These traps are more expensive than other traps, but they are humane.

Snap traps. Cheap and effective. However, depending on the model, snap traps can be dangerous to children and pets.

Cats. Our feline friends are notorious mousers and many people still keep cats for the exact purpose of killing mice. Though fitting with the natural hierarchy of the animal world, there

The snap trap is probably the most famous type of mouse trap and one of the easiest to use.

Snap traps are made up of a U-shaped bar that is connected to a spring. Pull the bar back, latch it and place a dab of PEANUT BUTTER on the end opposite the U-shaped bar. When a mouse steps on the platform to eat the bait, its weight releases the latch holding the bar, which will then swing over and breaks its neck.

Place the mouse traps at the edges of a room with the bait end touching the wall, so that they form a right angle with the wall. Be careful when setting it down as you don't want to release the trap on yourself. Once you've caught the mouse, with your hands in protective gloves, pick up the mouse trap and throw it in the trash.

A note of caution: snap traps are pretty gruesome to look at and not for the weak of heart.

You can try using a piece of fruit instead of the peanut butter.

It is unlikely that the mouse is licking the peanut butter off, ants are probably eating it.

And for those two idiots that say to catch it and release it somewhere else, get a grip! Mice transmit fleas, ticks and diseases! They aren't cute! They aren't harmless! They should be killed if they are where they don't belong!!! Do some research and realize how dangerous those little buggers are!

Cheese don't work that well.I always use peanut butter on my trap and I use the sticky ones also.Always but a trap against the wall that's the way the usually walk.Try peanut butter cracker or even chocolate.Put more than one trap out.We always get mice in the fall when we have soy beans in our field next door to us. Good Luck

To Mary_mountain_lover:

Cats don't catch mice with their mouths. They use their claws. When a cat finds a mouse, it sneaks up on it or just sits their motionless in front of where the mouse is hiding until the mouse is within striking distance. Then the cat snags the mouse with it's claws, usually flinging it up in the air, so it gets injured when it lands on the ground. The cat then continues tossing and batting the mouse around until it's dead.

My dog (toy fox terrier - about 12 pounds full grown) does catch mice with his mouth. But, good luck getting it away from him. When he catches a mouse, he grabs it by the back of the neck and slings it around furiously until it's dead from a broken neck. He usually slings blood all over himself, too (he's white with a black head). And, even after the mouse is dead, he won't let go until he's done playing with it.

Glue strips work great. I cought two with it. I also used the peanut butter on mouse traps and i did catch one with it.
Put the glue strips along the walls, thats where mice run since they cant see.

in case you get a seize, use peanut butter to bait it. Dcon works particularly properly. The glue traps are solid, yet once you don't get it quickly after it catches the mouse, he will visit any lengths to get off of it. We positioned glue traps out, and interior the morning only had component to his foot - he have been given away. Mice like cheese, yet look to love peanut butter better. there is likewise a poison bait at maximum farm aspects (i don't understand the call, in spite of the shown fact that it particularly is supplied in a block) and it works super - yet not secure in case you have different pets that should are available in touch with it. I hate to assert it, yet once you observed one, you likely have greater. in case you're extremely freaked out, call an exterminator. yet i might go get some mouse traps and set them. under sink, close to range, in cabinets are all solid places.

Oh come on, don't kill it! Why this instinct to kill anything that moves inside one's house:) Is it out of fear? No, poor mouse fits in the palm of your hand and is harmless...I can't think of an explanation.

Catch it and then leave him/her far from your house, in a field or some empty lot.

How to catch a mouse I don't know. Get a cat, let her catch it and then take it out of her mouth:)

Please don't kill the poor mouse just cuz you're "afraid" or grossed out by it being there....He/she is no different than the colorful mice sold for pets, at pet stores.

Take really chewy bacon and tie it on the trap with wire.
My dad caught 30+rats that way with one piece of bacon in Vietnam.
