i have no respect for sellouts. you are supposed to make music because you love it and you want other people to love it, not because you want to make a lot of money off of some crappy no talent album. mainstream music sucks for the most part. its a bunch of crap that mtv decided was good so the rest of their mindless drones listen to it. some mainstream music can be good every now and then, but it's very rare for that to happen

I agree with what most people have said, but I don't think that being mainstream is the same as selling out. It's okay for bands to get attention, that's what they're in the business to do. But like, I don't mean to always be hating on Fall Out Boy, but they are such a good example, their first CD sounds like a totally different band from their last CD. It's terrible. They were so good and when they got a new fan base, their sound totally changed. I was disappointed.

you cant blame a band for going mainstream or becoming popular, you have to consider that it is a business and the main point is to make money. The only thing that bothers me about is when a band completely changes their sound to get there and then you get the people who have no idea what real music is singing along like they know what they're doing. One of the best examples us Avenged ( i refuse to call them a7x) i like them back when sounding the seventh trumpet came out and even more when they released their best CD - waking the fallen- but then city of evil came out. I know what people are going to say ,but he cant scream anymore because of his throat, wrong i saw them winter of 06 and he screamed all the old songs. Same thing with Trivium, Embers to Inferno- good, Ascendancy- great, The Crusade- ehh. I'm not bashing these bands i really like them just not they're new stuff, Some bands do it right like All That Remains, Behind Silence and Solitude was average, This Darkened Heart was better, and Fall Of Ideals was excellent one of the best Cd's I've ever heard but i dont mind that more people know about them now because they did it the right way they didn't change their sound they just improved it. (Sorry for the length)

mÝ bLôøÐÿ rØmÂnœ has the right idea on this one. I think it's great if a band can make a living off of doing what they love, as long as they don't go changing and adjusting just for mainstream success. I mean damn, if I could make money doing something as fun as playing music everyone who didn't like it could jump in a lake, that's a great thing. Making money isn't a bad thing, losing your integrity is.

I don't use the term sell out. It doesn't make sense to me. Last time I checked, selling out concerts was a good thing. Some mainstream bands are good, but when they're really really popular, I probably won't like them as much.

I don't form my opinions on any bands based on their album sales. Everybody has to eat, so you can't criticize bands for trying to make money. There once was a time when everybody cried "sellout" when a group sold rights for commercial use. Now you hear more music on commercials than you do on MTV and over-the-air radio combined. The whole "holier than thou" idea is getting old.

Linkin Park is richer than Microsoft.

Fall Out Boy is more popular than Jesus.

My Chemical Romance owns a generation of white girls.

Don't Die is still barely scraping by playing 25 shows a month.

Never heard of Don't Die?

Hmm... why could that be.

I'm glad when a band I like becomes successful when a lot of people like their music, because they worked hard to become successful, but I don't like it when they change their sound or image so they'll be able to sell more music.

I actually agree with little miss black death exactly. i can understand what ppl are talking about when they say "sellouts" but it dosnt really make sense becuz every band wants to be succesful. I dont think ppl should judge bands on how popular they are, but wether or not they actually like their sound.

Metallica...soooo mainstream, they took such pleasure in selling out

Megadeth....they wish they were mainstream sellouts...maybe the next album, Dave...(like you say in your cover of No More Mr. Nice Guy...) "yeah, RIGHT!!!"
