Sometimes I do this when I am feeling rushed or otherwised stressed.
It helps me to orgainze my thoughts and priorites, it is akin to a verbal to do list.

Since children's brain development isn't complete, Children have been know to talk to themselves to help control their actions and behaviors.

It's like playing with yo-yo's. We think a string of thoughts, cast out of ourselves that molecular acoustical string with the thought unfurling until it snaps unto itself and then we whip it back into our own ears!

Because it helps you remember something. You not only thought of an idea (which is stored in one part of your brain), but you also said it, so hearing it will store the thought in another part of your brain.
