I moved into a house with hardwood floors and the whole place reeks of animals and their urine. I have bleached the floors three times now, hot do I get the smell out?

If the wood has been saturated deep it may be there a while. I live in an apartment one time that was like that. The office recommended I scrub with vinegar (white vinegar). It seemed to help but it smelled like pickles for a few weeks afterwards. There is also an aerosol on the market named Ozium (most car parts stores carry it) that works rather well.

Go to a pet store and get a gallon bottle of Nature's Miracle (about $25 - $30). Use it directly on the floor and let it soak in. It contains an enzyme that breaks down the urine stains - even if they've been dried in for a while. It also contains a citrus solution that hides the urine smell. After a while, wipe up the excess and let it dry. If the smell comes back or just doesn't completely go away, do the application again.

BTW - the label on the bottle says it's good for removing other bodily excretions (poop, barf, blood, etc.) as well as red wine stains on carpets or upholstery.

Kilz Sealer--I had the same problem with cat spray and urine when I moved into my house. It was in the living room rug and it went through to the hardwood floors. Bleach did not work. I had to pull out the carpet and painted Kilz Sealer on the whole floor and about 3 feet up the walls. It definitly takes care of the problem. you will have to replace the carpeting tho.

I bought a house and the owners had three indoor cats. I found this spray called ODOBAN and used it. I didn't have any more stink after that. I still use that stuff to this very day as it actually kills the odorcausing bacteria rather than masking it and it has a very light smell as opposed to the febreeze perfume. It is in the laundry isle of Wal-Mart near the Febreeze and it is aslo about half the price. I shouwed it to a friend of mine who chain smokes and when you walll in their house now, you can't tell that there are two chain smokers in there.

Go to a pet store and get a product called "Nature's Miracle". It really is a miracle. You might hae to soak the areas that smell several times. Pour it on and let it do its magic. This also works on blood stains or other organic type stains.

You might have to have the floors refinished again. I am sure it damaged the floors quite a bit. Get a flooring expert in there have him look at it. It sounds like its really in the wood.

Go to Petco or Petsmart. They have a few products to counteract the urine odor. Here's one we used:

If you dont want to do that, try getting a few boxes of baking soda and sprinkle around. You may also want to dump some baking soda in a bowl and leave it out - it's one of the best things for absorbing odors.
