I'm looking for an area that is cosmopolitan, has culture and atmosphere, and has some quiet areas for relaxing within nature. Any suggestions would be great!

I agree. I lived in Newtown and Erskineville for years before I retired. It is next door to Sydney University which has wonderful grounds with more than 100 species of birds recorded. There are plenty of restaurants to suit all tastes and pockets and a real village atmosphere. Transport to the city is excellent and you can walk to Central in a little over half an hour.

If I had the mad $$$ I'd live near Cronulla beach (yeah yeah I know...the "riot" beach :P) or on the Northern beaches like Narabeen.

If you really like to live a bit out, where there is less sound, noise and chemical pollution I would suggest somewhere in Northern Sydney around Ku-ring-Gai or a place like Woy Woy which is between Newcastle the north and Katoomba in the west.

Katoomba, Leura, Bathurst and places like that in the west are excellent for nature lovers too---the temperate eycalyuptus forests in the Blue Mountains are great.

Hope this helps :)

Try the inner west. Glebe, Newtown, Annandale, Balmain.

Great little cafes, pubs with a nice little village feel.

Avoid the eastern suburbs like the plague. It's over rated
