Is it possible to get a really good deal on a room at DisneyWorld's Animal Kingdom Lodge? Specifically, I want to stay in one of the Savannah rooms, which are the most expensive. I can be as flexible as need be in order to save as much on the room as possible. Last I checked, though, those rooms run almost $300/night (NOT including taxes & fees!) in the dead of winter. Anybody got any inside information that would save me some money?

Animal Kingdom is a really great resort, and the least expensive of the deluxe resorts. The Savannah view room is the most expensive view, but it is not actually the most expensive room at Animal Kingdom. There are club level rooms, suites, etc. there is even a bunk bed room in Savannah view that runs a little higher, so it does go much higher than just the savannah view!
Going during value season will get you the lowest price at the resort, and also the best promotions. Recently Disney hasn't had as many special on room onlys as they do with packages, so if you don't plan to add tickets and things, you may actually end up spending a little more money on the room.
The best thing to do with a room only is to get a AAA discount. If you are already a member there are no problems, but if you don't have a membership you better check what the savings is before you buy the membership. If you are only going for a night or so the membership may not save you much. AP holders also get a room discount, but you have to buy the AP and for most people it won't end up saving them money, so this probably won't be the best option, unless you plan to go back several times. Florida residents also get discounts.
If you are able to do a package, you can get the best savings. Disney offers really good savings for the packages, especially in the off season. For example, Sepetember is when they usually offer free dining for your stay. They also do ticket upgrades, free nights, money off, etc. so it just depends what they are offering at that time. Right now they are doing the second round of codes for September, it is a good savings, but not quite as good as the free dining. To get a package all you have to do is add a one day pass for each person in the room and you can get quite a bit of savings.
MouseSavers is a pretty good site to get information on savings. Just make sure you verify the information you get from their website. For some reason they have had a lot of inaccurate information recently, but in the past they have been pretty good. You can also talk to your travel agent, they more than likely have a newsletter that will inform you when codes come out. My agent automatically lowers rate, but if I haven't booked I can find out when they are available when I get the newsletter.
