You should only feel embarrassed by riding a bike to work, if you are riding it without clothes, or if there is a big hole in your pants or something.
Stop basing your self-worth on other peoples' opinions. It is not up ot anyone else to decide whether you are a loser. If you have pretentious friends with shallow opinions, just laugh and ride on. Then, when you have saved money from your job, you can buy cool stuff. PLUS, I bet you'll make good friends working, and they will be people similar to you, because... they work where you work.

With gas prices and environmental issues the way they are, I am embarrassed that I DON'T ride a bike to work. Time to start acting like a grown up. Jobs and transportation are practical things. Whether you feel like a loser is irrelevant, and it is just in your head anyway. Considering the health benefits and costs, you'll be the winner, not the loser.

With all the news about pollution and global warming I would expect people to be very supportive of biking to work. Especially when you say it like you choose to bike instead of driving. It ain't so impressive if you say I have to bike.
Plus you don't have to pay for the gas, maintenance, insurance, etc which adds up fast.
You could also look at places you can take public transport to.

Go to the gym and start lossing fat and gaining muscle. or get him a dress and a wig (ok that was mean...LOL) You cant target weight loss so doing chest exersizes just to fix this will not work. I say go to the gym because buying equipment to use in your own home does not work. Going to the gym seems to be more successful for most people. I would do lots of cario 30-60 minutes and also do weight training. light weights with 15 reps. (builds lean muscle mass) As he losses weight he can cut back on cardio and ramp up the weight traning. He does not sound that fare off from being in good condition, maybe 20-30 lbs.

I am old enough to be your mom, and she is a smart lady.
If you had a car you would have to worry about:
the high cost of insurance
registering and licensing the car
the exhubertant cost of fuel
tires, batteries, and other maintaince issues
probably you would want accessories to dress your car
a bike is:
good exercise
economical--new tires are affordable!
healthy for the enviroment
I do ride my bike (even tho I have a car) to work daily, 10 miles round trip.
It keeps me healthy and my car new and available with fuel for shopping and errands.
I actually repect people who want to work badly enough to ride a bicycle when they have no car, it shows a strong will to want to provide for themselves.

well i know how you feel. i'm gonna be 17 in a less than couple of months but i've never had to do that because for one, i dont have a job & i have a car.. but why dont you ask you mom if she can take you to work or ask one of your friends for a ride? or if no one can give you a ride, ride your bike for a while & once you make friends with your co-workers, ask them if they would be nice enough to give you a ride... its worth a shot, right??
